United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jamie McDonald, Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, Harmeet K. Dhillon, Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), James C. Barnacle, Jr., and the Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”), Jessica S. Tisch, announced today that LARRY MONTES was charged with two counts of committing hate crimes in connection with his race- and religious-based assaults of a congregant and a security guard during a Shabbat service at a synagogue in Manhattan on August 14, 2026, as well as one count of destruction of religious property resulting in bodily injury.
